On May 30, students from Park Avenue Memorial Elementary School in Amityville took part in the Girls on the Run 5K race.
For the past three years, Park Avenue has participated in the Girls on the Run program held during the district’s Leaders of Tomorrow program. A nonprofit organization, Girls on the Run programs were designed to inspire girls of all abilities to recognize and embrace their inner strength and make meaningful connections with others. Along with PAMES Staff/Coaches Alison DeMauro and Amy Stein, Amityville’s teachers were trained for the program, which used physical activity and dynamic discussions to build social, emotional and physical skills while encouraging healthy habits for life.
Park Avenue participated with 35 other schools from Long Island in this year’s 5K race. The event was fun for the girls it served as an evidence-based program that inspired participants to recognize their inner strength, increase their level of physical activity, imagine their possibilities, and confidently stand up for themselves.
