Citizens Budget Advisory Committee

The committee will operate under the direction of the Board of Education and will continue to operate until dissolved as and when deemed appropriate by the Board of Education.
The Board of Education seeks to utilize the committee members’ expertise in a review of the school district proposed budget based on the following charge:
- Analyze the working draft document of the proposed executive budget with specific recommendations as to how a balance can be achieved among the educational needs of the Amityville School District’s students, the residents’ expectations and the District’s fiscal ability to address those needs.
- Examine mandated costs as required by state and federal regulations.
- Review the general budget publication as to its structural composition for purposes of clarity and understanding by residents.
- Consider the impact of additional present and future tax increases in light of present local, state and national economic conditions.
- Gain an understanding of the tax-cap levy formula to determine how it affects the Amityville proposed budget.
- Provide the Board of Education and superintendent of schools with a written and oral report each spring prior to budget adoption, containing the committee’s recommendations pertaining to the proposed budget.
