New York State Senator Monica R. Martinez Visits Northeast Elementary for Hispanic Heritage Month

Northeast Elementary School recently welcomed New York State Senator Monica R. Martinez for a special classroom visit in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.
During her visit, Senator Martinez read Mariama: Different But Just the Same by author Jerónimo Cornelles. The story follows a young girl adjusting to life in a new country and discovering that despite differences in language, culture and traditions, friendship and kindness can bring people together.
The reading provided an opportunity for students to explore important lessons about diversity, acceptance, empathy and the importance of celebrating what makes each of us unique. It also reinforced Amityville’s commitment to creating welcoming and inclusive learning environments where every student feels valued and a sense of belonging.
The district thanks Senator Martinez for taking the time to visit Northeast Elementary School and share a meaningful story with our youngest members of the Tide as we celebrate the cultures, traditions and contributions of the Hispanic community.
