Today, Edmund W. Miles Middle School students took time to remember, reflect and learn as our nation marks 25 years since the events of September 11, 2001.

Teachers and guest speakers shared their personal memories of that day with students, offering perspectives from those who were in New York City as the events unfolded, in school classrooms watching history happen, and experiencing the uncertainty of the day in different ways.

While each person’s experience was unique, a common message emerged from their reflections: in the midst of unimaginable tragedy, there was hope. There was compassion. And there was unity.

Students also participated in a moment of reflection, honoring the lives lost, the courage of first responders and all those whose lives were forever changed by September 11.

For many of our students, September 11 is now history rather than a lived memory. By sharing these firsthand experiences, our educators and guests are helping a new generation understand not only what happened that day, but also the powerful way people came together in the days and weeks that followed.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to remember those we lost, honor those who served and carry forward the hope and unity that brought our nation together.

We will never forget.
