Northwest’s students celebrate new beginnings at moving-up ceremony

On June 24, Northwest Elementary School’s third-grade students in Amityville marked an important milestone in their educational journey during a heartfelt moving-up ceremony held in the auditorium at Amityville Memorial High School.
Dressed to the nines for the special occasion, students were joined by their families, district administrators, and members of the Board of Education as they celebrated the completion of their time at Northwest. Throughout the ceremony, the students proudly performed a selection of songs that reflected their excitement and accomplishments. A highlight of the event was a special video slideshow featuring the students sharing their favorite memories and experiences during their years at at Northwest. The presentation brought smiles and laughter as families and staff reflected on the many moments that made the students' elementary school years so memorable.
Principal Kathleen Hyland congratulated the students on their achievements and encouraged them as they prepare to begin the next stage of their academic careers at Park Avenue Memorial Elementary School this fall. One of the ceremony’s most touching moments came as each student’s name was called. Before crossing the stage, students shared heartfelt hugs with their teachers, then proudly received their certificates from Ms. Hyland. They also had the opportunity to shake hands with Board of Education trustees and district administrators as family members looked on with pride.
Following the presentation of the final certificate, the auditorium erupted in thunderous applause as families, staff and guests rose to their feet to honor the students’ accomplishments with a standing ovation. The moving-up ceremony served as a meaningful celebration of growth, achievement and new beginnings. Northwest Elementary School’s third graders leave with cherished memories, lasting friendships and the confidence to embrace the exciting opportunities that await them at Park Avenue Memorial Elementary School.
