Park Avenue students cross finish line during annual Girls on the Run 5K

Park Avenue Memorial Elementary School in Amityville celebrated a season of growth, confidence and achievement as participants in the Girls on the Run program completed a 5K event at Eisenhower Park on May 30.
The celebratory run marked the culmination of months of hard work and personal development through the school’s Girls on the Run program. Throughout the season, students met after school twice each week to participate in a curriculum that combined physical activity with lessons designed to strengthen social, emotional and physical well-being. Through guided discussions, team-building activities and movement-based exercises, participants developed valuable life skills while building healthy habits and meaningful connections with their peers and coaches. The season concluded with the program’s signature 5K celebration, a joyful and non-competitive event that brought together students, staff members, coaches and family members.
More than a race, the event served as an opportunity for participants to celebrate their accomplishments, encourage one another and reflect on the confidence they gained throughout the program. Girls on the Run aims to inspire participants to recognize their strengths, build positive relationships and believe in their ability to achieve their goals. As students crossed the finish line at Eisenhower Park, they demonstrated not only their physical endurance, but also the confidence, resilience and sense of community fostered through the program.
The event provided a memorable conclusion to a season dedicated to empowering young students and reinforcing the importance of connection, self-confidence and healthy lifestyles.
