Amityville English teacher honored for lasting impact on students

On May 15, the Amityville School District proudly congratulated Amityville Memorial High School English Department Chairperson and lead teacher Jodi Wilsher on being named a 2026 Teacher Appreciation Honoree by State Assemblyman Kwani B. O’Pharrow.
The recognition was presented during a special awards ceremony hosted by Assemblyman O’Pharrow at his district office in Lindenhurst. The event celebrated outstanding educators throughout the district who continue to make a meaningful impact in their communities and serve as pillars of support for the children they teach each day. Honorees were selected through nominations submitted by members of the community.
Ms. Wilsher has been a dedicated educator in the Amityville School District since 2002. Since 2013, she has led the Amityville Memorial High School English Department as both department chairperson and lead teacher. Throughout her career, she has remained committed to helping students strengthen their literacy skills, think critically, and discover their voices as readers and writers.
In addition to her leadership in the classroom, Ms. Wilsher has played an important role in fostering a positive and welcoming school culture through the meaningful relationships she builds with students and staff. As advisor to the Student Council, she has encouraged student leadership, collaboration, and school pride across the Amityville Memorial High School community. A proud mother of two daughters, Ms. Wilsher expressed gratitude for the constant support of her loving husband and mother, whose encouragement has helped guide her throughout her career in education.
“It is truly an honor to be recognized as a 2026 Teacher Appreciation Honoree,” Ms. Wilsher said.
