A chapter of calm: Amityville Memorial High School celebrates DEAR Day

On April 30, Amityville Memorial High School held a DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) Day during ninth period to promote a schoolwide culture of reading.
The initiative encouraged students and staff to pause their regular activities and engage in independent reading in a calm and inclusive environment. Each classroom was provided with a selection of books featuring a variety of genres and reading levels, allowing all students to access texts that matched their interests and abilities. During this time, students selected appropriate reading materials of their choice and participated in quiet, focused reading without the use of phones or other distractions.
Faculty members also took part by reading alongside students, helping to model positive reading habits. The event aimed to foster enjoyment of reading while giving students the opportunity to relax and engage with texts in a meaningful way. The following link will give you some photos of the event.
