Students shine at Amityville’s annual Black History Month celebration

On Feb. 27, students from all five schools in the Amityville School District took center stage for the district’s annual Black History Month celebration, held in the auditorium at Amityville Memorial High School.
District administrators, building principals, parents and community members filled the auditorium to capacity as students delivered a powerful and vibrant program honoring Black history, culture and achievement. The evening featured a dynamic lineup of performances, including festive cultural dances, African drumming, spoken word presentations, poetry readings, step routines and musical performances of classic R&B selections.
In recognition of the national observance of the 100th anniversary of Black History Month, this year’s program paid tribute to influential Black figures of the past, celebrated prominent leaders of the present and offered a glimpse into the promising future of Black excellence within the Amityville school community. Throughout the evening, students demonstrated not only their artistic talents, but also their deep appreciation for the history and cultural contributions that have shaped the nation. Their performances reflected months of preparation and collaboration across all five schools in the district.
The Amityville School District is proud of its students and staff for organizing a meaningful and inspiring celebration that brought the community together in reflection, recognition and unity.
