Amityville’s student leaders engage peers in districtwide focus groups

On Jan. 30, members of the Superintendent’s Student Leadership Council in the Amityville School District visited three schools across the district to engage their peers in student-led focus groups.
Joined by district administrators, SSLC members broke into small groups at Edmund W. Miles Middle School, Park Avenue Memorial Elementary School, and Amityville Memorial High School to discuss their roles as council representatives and to facilitate open conversations with students. During these discussions, students were invited to share feedback on their school and classroom experiences, suggest possible improvements or upgrades, and propose ideas for future district investments as planning begins for the 2026-27 budget.
The focus groups encouraged thoughtful dialogue and meaningful collaboration between student leaders and their peers. These conversations fostered positive interactions and provided valuable insight into student perspectives, helping district leadership better understand what students would like to see in their schools in the near future.
The SSLC continues to serve as a vital voice for students, ensuring their ideas and experiences play an active role in shaping the future of the Amityville School District.
