Enrichment students conduct lessons at Park Avenue in Amityville

Fifth graders in Mr. Reiner’s enrichment program at Park Avenue Memorial Elementary School in Amityville recently took on the role of teachers during an interactive lesson with their younger peers.
Students visited fourth-grade classrooms to teach lessons on how to find the area of composite shapes. Over the past few weeks, students worked diligently to prepare for this lesson, anticipating potential questions and developing clear explanations to support student understanding.
Fourth graders responded very positively to their new teachers and were able to successfully break composite shapes into two rectangles and accurately calculate their area. While the fifth graders admitted that they felt nervous walking into the classrooms and experienced a few butterflies, they did not let their nerves get the best of them. Their confidence grew as the lesson progressed, and their efforts were greatly appreciated by both the fourth-grade students and their teachers.
