Community Survey re: Superintendent’s Search

The school board and search consultants are interested in community input as they seek to hire a new Superintendent of Schools. This survey is designed to gather opinions on the importance of various characteristics found in effective Superintendents. The information will be used to help determine the desired characteristics of the next Superintendent. All members of the school community are encouraged to share their input via this survey. The survey is conducted by District Wise Search Consultants, which ensures that your individual responses are kept anonymous and confidential. The survey will close on March 31, 2023. The Amityville Board of Education has engaged with District Wise Search Consultants to conduct the search for its next Superintendent of Schools.

On behalf of The Trustees of the Board of Education, we would like to invite you to attend a forum led by the search consultants. Your input will be invaluable to us while we create a “profile” for your next Superintendent. A meeting has been scheduled for March 28th, 2023, at 7:30 pm at the Amityville High School Cafeteria. For those that are unable to attend in person, please join us at the same time on Zoom.

The participation of all stakeholders is very important during this process. All information gathered will be included anonymously in a report that will be prepared for the Board.

Dear Amityville School Community,

The Amityville Board of Education appreciates Superintendent Dr. Ed Fale for his leadership during the post COVID period which enabled security and stability for our district. Our partnership with him continues to be productive and collaborative and he will continue to keep the district on a steady course. The Board is now engaged in the important work of hiring the next Superintendent of the Amityville School District to continue moving the district forward for long term stability.

Through the process of Request for Proposals, the Board of Education will seek to retain the services of a search firm that specializes in aiding school boards with the identification and selection of superintendents. The firm will serve in an advisory capacity to the Board and assist with the logistics of the search. This process will provide us with the greatest opportunity to hire the best candidate to meet the needs of our school district.

The selected search firm, will assist the board of education in developing the search criteria, advertising, interview questions and techniques, as well as in facilitating community input. There will be several opportunities for all stakeholders to contribute their ideas about the desired qualities and strengths of our next superintendent and a vision for the district’s next chapter. Community input will be an integral part of the hiring process and will help guide our direction; we hope you will share your thoughts with us when the time comes. We will seek contribution from stakeholders of the community, through meetings and surveys, to determine candidates with the knowledge, skills and attributes the next superintendent should possess. Based upon the profile that emerges, the search firm will then select candidates. After an intense and thorough interview process, the Board will make the final hiring decision. The Board is committed to communicating with the public frequently throughout this process.

The Amityville Board of Education has launched the formal process of to seek the next superintendent of our school district. The Board of Education is committed to a search process that is transparent and collaborative with input from all school district stakeholders. All information related to the search process will be made available on the school district website.
