Welcome to Our Middle School
Principal's Message
Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians:
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the newly appointed principal of Edmund W. Miles Middle School. It is with much excitement and pride that I assume this responsibility. As the Assistant Principal for the past four years, I have come to know many of you both in a professional and personal manner. I hope to continue working with you and your family in the same vein.
My goal is to create a culture of community with our students, parents and faculty, one that will have a positive impact on student achievement. Our school is committed to teaching the whole child and we will continue to build life-long learners, not just teach students to pass a test.
Our district’s mantra is “Educating for the Future,” and in the 21st century, children must be taught the technical skills to succeed, the interpersonal communication skills to work well with others, and the character traits to be compassionate, caring and productive members of society. This will be at the forefront of everything we do, as we guide them through adolescence and prepare them for life in Amityville Memorial High School, college, and adulthood. In the past four years, I have gotten to know the names of nearly every child here and I look forward to supporting them, as well as the future generations of Amityville children.
Joining the staff at Miles will be Mr. Steven Lindenfeld, who has been appointed as the Assistant Principal. Mr. Lindenfeld has also served as an assistant principal in the district for the past four years. Based upon his experience in the high school, Park Avenue Memorial Elementary School and with the Virtual Academy, Mr. Lindenfeld has a strong relationship with many of our students and parents and will be a true asset to the middle school.
Our doors will always be open. If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at (631) 789-6200.
Respectfully,
Michele Darby
Principal
