AMHS Students Honored for Exceptional Work in Spanish
CELINA BONILLA
We know it is very important in today’s day to learn more than one language, but for me, keeping your culture is very important as well. I believe that we always have to know where we’re going but never forget where we came from.
As a Latina living in this country, I see how some Hispanic kids feel ashamed in a way of their culture and that’s what inspired me to write “HAY MAMA” and I feel proud, honored and happy that it was published in the honored Hispanic magazine ¡Alricrias!. I’m expressing my thoughts and on top of that, I’m getting money out of it.
I plan to keep writing and I truly wish this inspires other teenagers, Latinos, to write as well and be proud of our culture.
Last, I wanted to thank my Spanish teacher, Mrs. Castro, for giving me the opportunity to express myself.
THOMAS FUENTES
My name is Thomas Fuentes and I participated in the National Spanish Exam in March 2011. The test was very difficult, but I tried my best and I received a gold medal for my high score.
I encourage other bilingual students to participate in this exam because of the rewards you can get from it. I was also invited to a very nice restaurant with my family because of this exam.
