Homecoming 2011: Warriors Roll to Victory
Amityville Memorial High School celebrated Homecoming weekend in style. Following an evening in which the school’s first ever Hall of Fame class was inducted, the community gathered at the Amityville LIRR station the next day to march through the Village of Amityville for the annual Homecoming Parade. The weekend’s excitement culminated with a dominant display of running and defense on the gridiron, as the Warrior Varsity Football team rolled over John Glenn High School by a score of 42-28 on Lou Howard Field.
Led by members of the Amityville Board of Education and district administration, as well as Deputy Village Mayor Peter Casserly, the Homecoming parade featured representation from the different Amityville schools, highlighted by approximately 100 students from Park Avenue Elementary School. The Marching Band, Cheerleaders and Dancers entertained during the parade and throughout the game, highlighted by a wonderful halftime tribute to Michael Jackson, led by Kevin Jackman-Brian who played the role of the King of Pop. Halftime also served to introduce the community to Homecoming King and Queen Julien Bethea and Cindy Coffee.
Da’rell Hatcher led the Warriors with an outstanding 366 yards rushing on 23 carries, with 6 touchdowns. The victory ended Glenn’s 17-game winning streak. Amityville’s Willie White led off the game with a touchdown reception from QB Sean Walters. Glenn tied the score shortly thereafter, but Da’rell responded with a touchdown of his own and the team never looked back, taking a commanding 26-7 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Prior to the game, inaugural inductees of the Amityville High School Sports Hall of Fame were introduced on the field.
