Amityville HS and Northwest Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Together

Amityville Memorial High School’s English as a Second Language (ESL) and Spanish Departments, under the direction of teacher Lisa Castro, invited students from nearby Northwest Elementary School in Amityville for a multifaceted performance in celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month. With accompaniment by the AMHS Jazz Band, high school students performed traditional Latin American song and dance, and had the youngsters from Northwest clapping and singing along with them. They even led the elementary students in a game of Simon Says, recited in Spanish. ESL students marched out on stage, each wearing a different flag representing one of the 20 Latin American countries. There was also a video on the ancient ruins of Mach Picchu. National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated annually between September 15 and October 15.
