Music and Art Department News for October

• Tuesday, October 19 – A select group of HS art students attended the 13th Annual Fall Arts Conference at Adelphi University. They participated in Art and Theatre-related workshops. Students in attendance were Giselle Rivas, Rebecca Zakshevsky, Candace Lopez, Leighann Benn, Nimah Kellman, Brandon Radhaykissoon, Daisy Hernandez, Hudson Woelk, Amanda Ramirez, and Jayson Schmidt.

• Tuesday, October 19 – The HS Marching Band gave an outstanding performance at the annual Newsday Marching Band Festival at Hofstra University. The band, under the direction of Mr. Brian Wishin, presented their show entitled “The Groovin’ Sounds of the 70s”. They were well received by the audience at this regional performance. Many of our 9th grade band members were audience spectators at this event.

• Wednesday, October 20 through Friday, October 22 – HS Art classes visited the
Heckscher Museum of Art in Huntington to learn about the museum’s art
collection and to prepare for participation in this year’s “Long Island’s Best” art
competition.

• Friday, October 22 – The artwork of Giselle Rivas was included in the
NYSSBA/ NYSATA HS Art Exhibition at the Sheraton Hotel in New York City.

• Friday, October 29 – Seven 7th grade band students will perform in the Hofstra
Middle School Honors Band Concert. The performance will take place at Hofstra
University and will begin at 8 PM.
