DONATING ACROSS THE GLOBE
Students Collect Needed Items
for Mwakaleli Secondary School in Africa
In collaboration with The Children’s Fellowship Organization’s founder, Mark Grashow, Amityville Memorial High School students have been diligently collecting donations of clothes, shoes, school supplies, toys and books to be shipped to Tanzania, Africa. There, the donations will be distributed among students who attend Amityville’s sister school, Mwakaleli Secondary School, located near Mbeya and an approximate twelve-hour ride from Dar es Salaam.
“The school has so few supplies and books,” Supervisor of Mathematics Claude Irwin stated. “We have textbooks here in the district that are no longer used, so we decided to send them to our sister school in Africa.”
Recently, students from the Girls Varsity and Junior Varsity Soccer teams took time out of their practice schedule to box the textbooks for shipping. Within the next few weeks, Mr. Grashow will travel to Tanzania to unload and personally deliver the supplies to the African students and their families.
Amityville Memorial High School Principal Scott Andrews commented that he is pleased with the outcome of the collection. “We are very proud of our students for taking the time and effort to help the students in our sister school that are far less fortunate than we are at Amityville Memorial High School,” he stated.
