Students Explore Historical Black Colleges

Thirty-one juniors and seniors from Amityville Memorial High School participated in the fourth annual Tour of Historical Black Colleges. The tour was funded through the COMPASS Coalition, which is dedicated to building a school/community partnership to help reduce underage alcohol and drug use and abuse. The tour’s objective is to encourage students to focus on their future education. Students visited Virginia State, Virginia Union and Coppin State Universities. During the tour, they also visited the Confederate White House in Virginia and the National Black Wax Museum in Baltimore. Amityville High School social worker and COMPASS coordinator Raymond Velez, social worker Reynolds Hawkins, COMPASS community mentor Brenda King, and parent Ann Clyde served as chaperones.
