Amityville Students Excel Physically and Socially at Games

For a set of Amityville triplets, Friday June 12 through Sunday June 14 are three days in their lives they will always remember. After participating in the local Special Olympics Games, Kevine, Kristian and Kristopher Robinson qualified to participate in the Special Olympics State Games at Binghamton University, where they had the opportunity to compete with more than 1,500 athletes from all over New York State, and meet new friends as well.
The students, along with Amityville Public School District teachers Rebecca DePaolo and Charles Martine, traveled with other athletes from Nassau and Suffolk to Binghamton University where they enjoyed an opening ceremony celebration Friday evening complete with music, dancing and socializing among the athletes. As part of the Long Island Regional Team, the Amityville students entered the celebration with their teammates to the sounds of the Olympic Theme Song, and enjoyed meeting and sizing up their competition for the next day’s games.
On Saturday, Kevine, Kristian and Kristopher represented Amityville with pride and a show of good sportsmanship. Each participated in the 100-meter run and the 200-meter run. Kristian placed 5th in the 100-meter and 3rd in the 200-meter. Kristopher came in 3rd in the 100-meter and 5th in the 200-meter, and Kevine earned 2nd in the 100-meter and 4th in the 200-meter. A special victory dance was held that evening during which all of the athletes celebrated their success at the 2009 Special Olympics State Games. The district congratulates Kevine, Kristian and Kristopher on their accomplishment and is proud to have been represented by them at the games.
