Super Fans

Students in the fifth-grade class of Ingrid Archaga and Chris Diot at Park Avenue Memorial Elementary School celebrated the hometown team’s participation in this year’s Super Bowl with a creative project. Students decorated the hallway outside their classroom with a blue and red bulletin board, complete with Giants and Patriots images, paper football players the students crafted themselves, and various statistics about the teams and key players, incorporating their current unit on ratios into the activity. They also calculated which players are the most popular on each squad, based on a poll they took.

After alerting the New York Giants about what they did, the class heard back from the team. The Giants sent them the official lineup card from this year’s NFC Championship game vs. the San Francisco 49ers, autographed by Giant players Zak DeOssie, Steve Weatherford and Lawrence Tynes. The three players also sent a personal hand-written note to the kids, thanking them for their support and encouraging them to keep up the good work. The students were ecstatic!
